Scene from a Porch

We continue to settle in to what truly feels like home now. It appears that it is a unanimous decision for the family as far as the favorite spot in the house: the screened-in porch. It is here that Laura and I have played countless (literally, I am afraid) rounds of princess Go Fish; we have whiled away hours with the Francos (who have dubbed it the "party porch"); and all five of us have spent lots and lots of time reading. I was preparing dinner last night when Laura walked by me, headed for the porch with a book in hand, saying, "I'm going to read, too." Naturally, I had to snap this photo.

From the first visit, Tim and I were sure this porch would be a winner - and, as usual, it's nice to be right.

I had the rare opportunity to spend several days in a row with just Danny. Clare had long ago signed up for basketball camp, and Laura loved her preschool camp last week so much that she wanted to go again. You bet!

So while the girls did their things, Danny and I enjoyed two different sushi lunches:

A hike, and lots of ducking viewings:

A movie viewing, joined by Quincy to Danny's delight:

Another lunch at a nearby wings joint (we felt the need to explore our new eating environs):

Some quiet reading time:

And finally, we went to cheer on Clare's team in the basketball camp championship:

Danny was a delightful companion, playing Legos and such while I tended to household things; a great conversationalist; and most appreciative of our time together. Camp Mommy was a mutual success!

After an unintentional hiatus, the kids and I spent a glorious 24 hours at Lake Martin with the Pryors. I confess I was dreading going with Laura, but had to bring her to enable Tim to get work done at both houses. And since this was the only possible weekend, I couldn't deny Clare and Danny the opportunity.

Turns out it was the best way possible to kick off summer vacation. Laura loved it, and as a result was pleasant the whole time. Huzzah!

The weather was gorgeous, and we all had a fabulous time in that beautiful corner of the world. Bliss.
