Prom!

Given that Marist was unable to host its traditional Project Graduation event, and since its Prom is only for Seniors anyway, they opted to schedule it for the night of graduation. Which made for a FULL day, for sure. But since so many other schools were unable to hold a prom, our kids were grateful!

I think the picture-taking beforehand might have been Clare's favorite part. This was the first time she purchased a dress for a dance - usually she went with something from my closet or hers. She was so pleased to find an ethical source, and we both think the final choice was gorgeous!

It was so fun to see her nearest and dearest all looking so glam. Quite a finale for the weekend - and year! 

We call her Val

Words still somewhat fail me, as I try to recap Clare's graduation from Marist. It was impressive, and inspiring, and capped off a terrific six years so very well. 

She learned that she had earned the title of Valedictorian a few weeks prior to graduation, with a fun announcement in home room. But the official designation was awarded to her at the awards assembly held three days before graduation. At this event, she also earned the award for most outstanding student in AP Spanish (her third year in a row for the Spanish award), AND the Scholar Athlete Award - which came with a medal. Between that and her Valedictorian medal, she was a bit noisy - an "awesome flex" as her friends described it.

The Baccalaureate Mass was held outside on the football field, and thankfully we were blessed with some lovely weather! Donna and Larry arrived the night before, so we were an (almost) full crew. Danny served as an altar server, and Clare as a Eucharistic Minister, and it was just a peaceful, special evening. 

The graduation ceremony itself was bright and early the next morning. Clare and I headed over extra early, she to rehearse and me to save seats. She was excited, and happy, and unbelievably relaxed. She was enjoying every moment, and it was truly delightful to see! 

Her valedictory address came about halfway through the ceremony, and was preceded by the awarding of the AJC Cup, the second-highest honor awarded to a Marist Senior. The award "recognizes the Best All-Around Senior" as voted by the faculty and administration. And it was awarded to our Clare! 

She no sooner returned to her seat from accepting the award when it was time to give her speech. WHICH SHE CRUSHED. I continue to get compliments on it! The writing was fantastic, the delivery so confident and assured. We were all blown away! Or, as Grampy said, "left speechless."

So many people have commented how proud we must be. That feels like an understatement! But while these accolades are so very impressive, I am most proud that Clare said she is left with no regrets about her time spent at Marist. I can think of no better way to move on, and begin the next chapter.

Danny Turns 15

What a difference a year made, at least as far as Danny’s birthday was concerned! Six boys, some beautiful weather for outdoor shenanigans, and a heaping platter of ribs made for a great celebration!

They played a variety of soccer (including an inflatable dolphin as keeper?), basketball that featured tree climbing, and time on the trampoline.

They enjoyed their ribs alfresco around the fire pit, too - it was a gorgeous evening!

Since Grammy and Grampy were in town, Tim got a hand with prepping the five racks of ribs. Man, they were delicious, too!

We chose to save his cake for the following night so that we wouldn’t have to share. This year’s design featured a few of Danny’s favorite things: soccer, shoes, and his hair!

Happy, happy 15th birthday to our Danny Boy!

Laura’s Turn for Spring Break

Not to be outdone by her siblings, Laura also got to head to Sarasota for spring break, accompanied by moi. We left the day after Easter, and planned very little - we just wanted to relax and enjoy a change of scenery and the company of Donna and Larry.

We did hit the Selby Botanical Gardens and the beach, plus a few restaurants that synced up with viewing the sunset on the water - always a glorious sight. But I think Laura was most happy when we hit the pool and played Bananagrams each night!

The time flew, as usual! We are always so grateful for Grandma and Grandpa’s hospitality - this year more than ever. Until next time!

Easter 2021

While we didn’t state a family photo this year, we DID get to leave the house and go TO church! For that we were very grateful!

Since we opted for the evening mass, we enjoyed a leisurely day - backyard egg hunt included - and finished the day with a lamb feast. Blessed beyond measure.

Clare Turns 18!

This was a BIG birthday. And last year was such a bust that we wanted to make sure we celebrated this one really well! Since Clare’s good friend Moira turned 18 four days before her, they had a casual joint - and outdoor! - fete at our house. 

They decided to do a painting project, enjoyed a taco bar, and hung out around the fire pit. They were very happy!

But Clare also wanted to celebrate specifically with the “Swim Squad,” and I had discovered a very cool hotel in Buckhead with a gorgeous lobby and bar (think chic library) and delicious Mediterranean restaurant. So we found a mutually agreeable evening, kept the location a surprise, and had a delightful evening. Tim and I enjoyed our own table, so it served as a bit of a date night, though we then moved to the library for coffee and dessert and sat all together. Really a lovely time with some great kids.

Observing their photo shoots was also very amusing - and exactly why I chose the locale!

We celebrated with cake on her actual birthday - which came on a Thursday with lots of homework and a physics test to study for. BUT Abby came over for dinner and Indian take-out, so that evened things out!

This birthday feels like the beginning of a host of milestone events, and I know we will feel love for and pride in her over and over again. What an incredible 18 years it’s been, and what a dazzling future lies ahead!

St. Patrick’s Day

St. Patrick’s Day came on the heels of the one-year Covid anniversary, which in and of itself felt unthinkable. On the plus side, while she needed a mask, Laura got to be in school this time! CKS held its annual spirited celebration, and we truly did feel lucky.
